LEH, Dec 2: Union Territory of Ladakh has achieved the highest Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination among the UTs across the country under the scheme of the Union Government.
The National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) aimed at eradication of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis from India by 2030 was implemented in the Union Territory of Ladakh between October 2 and November 15, 2020 on a mission mode.
Being newly formed UT, Ladakh had multiple challenges like shortage of staff, LAHDC election duty and topographical challenges but the Department of Animal Husbandry stood firmly against the challenge and achieved it.
A total of 79, 098 cattle were tagged and vaccinated against FMD with a coverage of 94%, which is the highest in terms of vaccination coverage amongst the Union Territories, as per the report of Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India as on 26th Nov 2020.
The Secretary of Animal/ Sheep Husbandry Department of UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar said, “all efforts are being made to improve animal health & productivity in the Union Territory”.
