JAMMU, Dec 4: The two day cervical cancer screening camp at District Hospital Reasi and CHC Katra concluded today.
The camp was organised by Divisional NCD Cell, DHS under the supervision of Director Health Services Jammu.
A handout stated that the screening test involved VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) method which comes under the population based screening of common masses for diseases like hypertension, diabetics, cardio vascular diseases and different type of cancers.
Due to prevailing COVID-19 situation, 15 ASHAs were screened at DH Reasi and 12 at CHC Katra during the camp.
On this occasion, training was imparted to Doctors and ANMs by Dr Samita Bhat, Gynecologist from Gandhi Nagar Hospital of Jammu.
The handout further stated that these Doctors and ANMs will further screen the common masses in their respective places of posting.
Cervical Cancer is the second most common cancer prevailing in India. The current estimates indicate approximately 70,000 deaths annually in India, which accounts to 1/5th of global cervical cancer deaths.
Both the camps were concluded with thanks.
Dr Samir Koul, Divisional Nodal Officer NCD; Dr Rajiv Sharma, CMO Reasi; Dr Rajinder Kumar, MS DH Reasi; Dr Gopal Dutt, BMO Katra; Naresh Sharma and Vijay Kumar were also present on the occasion.
