JAMMU, May 4:     Maintaining the trend like previous years, Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister and president Dogra Sadar Sabha, once again launched “Save the Birds” Day programme from Dogra Sadar Sabha Bhawan, Partap Hall, here today.
Charak has made it a ritual to dedicate the day on the onset of summers for generating awareness on saving birds by quenching their thirst.
The event is first of its kind across the globe wherein Charak and his team hands over earthen pots to the villagers, members of civil society and college/school students.
While distributing the pots he emphasized the need to save the birds and exhorted them to carry out the programme faithfully till the onset of Monsoon.
He said, “Birds and wild animals play very important part in the ecology of the area to maintain balance.
While briefing the gathering of Panchs, Sarpanchs, Numberdars/Chowkidars members of Dogra Sadar Sabha and other members of the Civil Society, he appealed them to have similar pots placed in their homes for birds.
Charak asked them to take this message to every nook and corner of the region and make it a movement in their areas. He said, “It was always the part of Dogra culture and our ancestors followed it religiously”
Hundreds of enthusiastic young men who had come from the rural area stretching from Ravi Kalidar collected the pots to be carried to their villages from where they would further take them to be placed on the tress near the dried up ponds and other suitable locations.
Large number of students of colleges and schools participated in installing the earthen pots for birds .
