A progressive Union Territory like Jammu and Kashmir with comparative better infrastructure vis-à-vis running of police stations cannot compete even with tiny states and comparatively less developed places in the country in respect of producing a model police station to bag a national award is, really surprising as it is reflective of how our police stations function.
Even, we could not prove efficient like small states of Manipur and Sikkim and Union Territories like Andaman and Nicobar and Dadara and Nagar Haveli as police stations from these places found their niches among the top 10 police stations of the country. Perhaps, the parameters and the points of performance which entitles a police station to be reckoned as one of the best among top 10 is not known to our Jammu and Kashmir Police force. Jilmili in Chattisgarh, Sanguim in Goa, Kalighat in Andaman and Nicobar islands, Pakyong in Sikkim, Kanth Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh are, rank wise, among the best top ten police stations of 2020 in the country. The survey work of identifying such best police stations this year was done as usual despite the challenging situations of the COVID pandemic especially for surveying the farthest and the remotest police stations. We hope some lacuna in the functioning of our police stations which virtually keeps those from being ranked as the best, shall be looked into and attempts made to improve upon their working.
