JAMMU, Dec 8: The Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) has urged upon Justice (Retd.) Ranjna Parkash Desai, Chairperson Delimitation Commission to carve out two Assembly constituencies for DPs of 1947 from PoJK out of 7 increased Assembly seats for the time being till the Reorganization Act of 2019 is reviewed and amended accordingly to defreeze DP’s share of 8 seats out of remaining 24 reserved for the people of PoJK as the same have been captivated again without any reason and justification.
Addressing a meeting of the DPs at Gadigarh today, Gurdev Singh president alongwith Santosh Sharma and Dwarka Nath Khajuria, said that Delimitation Commission has been setup to re-demarcate the Assembly constituencies in UT of J&K to give proper representation to all sections of society to represent their aspirations. He said that Delimitation Commission has almost completed the data collection process to carve out the new constituencies on the basis of 2011 census.
While expressing his concern Gurdev Singh said that despite of several representation made by DPs in this regard, no feedback has been taken from DP’s yet. He said that DPs are the most sufferers section of society and their legitimate grievances with regard to their adequate rehabilitation, were ignored and denied. It happened for the simple reason that they have no representation in the legislature to represent their aspirations and people whom they voted to power never looked back.
Singh said that DPs are crying since their migration to defreeze their share of seats out of 25 to allow them to represent their people, so that they could raise their voice with regard to their settlement which is incomplete and awfully insufficient. But unfortunately the erstwhile State and Central Government having negative mindset paid no sincere heed towards this human problem for which they were constitutionally bound their legitimate settlements issues, but instead their rehabilitation issues were not taken seriously and even their share of seats were captivated merely for political considerations.
He regretted that after the historical abrogation of Article 370 and controversial 35 A, it was expected by DPs that some provision would be made in the reorganization act to accommodate genuine aspirations and accordingly defreeze their share of seats and also other settlement issues would be taken care of. But unfortunately nothing happened as such and instead only seven seats were increased.
