Probe ordered after family alleges death due to medical negligence

LEH, Dec 9: Medical Superintendent, SNM Hospital, Dr. Norzin Angmo has constituted a committee to find the reason behind the death of a 32 year old lady who died after giving birth to a baby in the hospital on December 7.
Dr. Angmo said it will be too early to draw any conclusions as the matter is under investigation.
The family of the woman has alleged sheer negligence of hospital administration as the reason behind her death.
Sister of the deceased claimed that the expecting lady was shifted to labour room on Sunday morning.
“There was no doctor and the patient was attended by three nurses but still a baby was born out of normal delivery. We were not allowed to meet her and nurses demanded boiled water. I forcefully went inside and found her bleeding excessively. I asked for doctor but there was no one to attend. The doctor instead of reaching hospital on time and attending the patient personally was taking the status of patient and guiding the nurses on phone,” sister of the deceased lady informed adding that the doctor arrived very late and instead of handling the case asked for COVID report which was already negative.
“She was bleeding profusely and in the morning she was shifted to OT for surgery but at around 4.30 pm on Monday she died”, sister of the deceased lady maintained.
The family said had the doctor attended the patient well in time she could have been saved.
Non-availability of doctors at SNM Hospital in night hour to attend emergency cases has become a matter of concern for the locals.
