MENDHAR, May 25: The people from Mankote and Chhajla area held massive protest demonstration and blocked Mendhar-Poonch road for about three hours this afternoon.
These villagers were protesting against the closure of the village way (Kucha road) by one Mohd Salim, son of Mohd Bashir of Chhajla. The people objected to the closure of this old village path / tractor road. They alleged that Salim closed this path despite protest by the villagers and raised wall and constructed a house.
The villagers had brought the matter to the notice of Tehsildar, but he did not take any action in this regard. Annoyed over the attitude of Tehsil Administration nearly 300-350 people today came out on the road and raised barricades at around 2 pm. They blocked Poonch road and started dharna. A large number of vehicles got stranded on this road.
Later, SDM Mendhar Ranjit Singh, Tehsildar Mr Dogra and SHO reached the spot. The SDM assured the agitating public that he will conduct an inquiry into the matter and get the village passage cleared after demolition of the structure. There after the villagers lifted dharna at around 5 pm.
