ASCOMS becomes 1st pvt college to have NABL accredited Virology Lab

JAMMU, Dec 11: Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) & Hospital has become the first private medical college in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir to have the accreditation by NABL for quality testing as per the standards of ISO 15189:2012 for RT-PCR.
While issuing the accreditation to ASCOMS & Hospital, the Chief Executive Officer of NABL had detailed review of the requirements for quality and competence for its facility in the field of medical testing. The Molecular Virology Lab of ASCOMS & Hospital has become the first one among the Medical Colleges to have been accredited by NABL.
Dr Bella Mahajan, Prof & Head, Department of Microbiology and the Lab Director stated that the Department of Microbiology is the Postgraduate Department and is now equipped with latest machinery for conduct of various Serological and the Culture Sensitivity tests.
Dr Dipender Kaur Najotra, Quality Manager and Dr Sarika Ghai, Deputy Quality Manager while elaborating on the working of the Lab told that quality for testing will be maintained as per ISO standards. They informed that soon the Lab will be authorized to conduct the COVID testing also by ICMR, New Delhi.
Dr Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, said that the management of the college, especially the joint secretary D K Batra, took keen interest in establishing the Molecular Virology Lab and has been personally looking into the progress of the setting up of the Lab.
While complimenting the Department of Microbiology, Davinder Batra said that all the members of Microbiology had worked day and night to establish the Molecular Virology Lab and get its accreditation by NABL.
