Protest against police, bandh at Chadwal

KATHUA, May 25: A complete bandh was observed at Chadwal Morh market and also at the village today by the businessmen/ traders in protest against the incident of attack on a shopkeeper and looting three days back.
The shopkeepers held protest demonstration and also observed dharna near the main chowk Chadwal Morh in protest against the attack on shopkeeper Nek Ram, of village Chak Ranga three days back. Nek Ram who runs a Mobile phones shop and repair work was attacked with lathis by some people and his cash and laptop was snatched during night when the trader was returning home.
The shopkeepers raised slogans against Kathua police and alleged that with the increasing lawlessness in the area, the citizens and traders are feeling insecure. They alleged that police has failed to trace the accused persons and put them behind the bars. They threatened to intensify agitation and block National Highway if the police failed to arrest the accused persons within next two days. They alleged that due to poor policing in the area, such incidents are on the rise.
Later, SSP Kathua Atul Goel and Tehsildar Hiranagar visited Chadwal and assured the traders to arrest accused persons shortly. They said the injured person was not able to give any statement till now and on the basis of the clues provided by him some breakthrough into the case will be made. Then traders lifted dharna in the afternoon.
