KATHUA, Dec 14: Union Minister of Textiles, Women and Child Development Smriti Irani while accusing the previous Governments for doing nothing for the welfare of the people of erstwhile State of J&K and its development during 70 years long rule, today said that these rulers enjoyed the power and looted the State exchequer with both hands.
Addressing public rally at Hatli Kathua and various other places in Udhampur district today in favour of BJP candidates, Irani said when a constant check was maintained over this illegal process practiced by them for decades together and Government tightened its noose over the corrupt leaders by stopping this practice they all joined hands and formed the Gupkar Alliance. “This Alliance was not formed for the benefit and welfare of the common masses of J&K but protecting their selfish ends”, she added.

Irani said that the days have gone and this chapter of looting State exchequer has been closed once for all now. The entire money which comes from Centre will be utilized to public welfare in J&K UT hence forth. Earlier the funds coming from Centre were going down the drain and selected dynasties were looting it at the cost of common masses. But this will not happen under Narendra Modi Government which took drastic steps for transformation in J&K, she added.
Lambasting Gupkar leaders, she said when the people in J&K faced problems they did not join the hands to provide a succor to them but when they saw that they are losing ground they joined hands. “When the poor women did not have cooking gas they did not came forward to help them but when they saw that their own hearths fell cold they came together”, she added.
Defending the Modi Government’s decision to abrogate Articles 370 and 35-A the Union Minister said, this Government is committed for the welfare of the people of J&K as many development and welfare projects are under construction in the UT. “If you voted for BJP candidates it means you are backing Narendra Modi, his policies and programmes. Your vote will be against dynastic politics, corruption and misrule”, she added.
Irani while highlighting various welfare schemes launched by Modi referred to Ujwala Scheme, Jan Awshadi, Insurance and other welfare schemes launched by the BJP Government for welfare of poor and downtrodden. She said now the money is directly being transferred in the account of poor and specially abled, old aged persons and widows which was not possible earlier.
The Union Minister said holding of three -tier Panchayati elections in J&K for the first time after the independence of the country is a historical step and this will empower people on the ground level. This right was denied for decades together to the people of J&K by previous rulers who wanted that they and their families’ empowerment, she added.
She asked the Gupkar leaders why did not they joined hands during the lock down in Corona period when people needed help and support. These were BJP activists who reached every nook and corner of the country to provide help and assistance to needy people”, she added.
Irani said BJP Government wants that the people at grass root level should get benefits of all Yojnas and developmental programmes. “It is now possible in J&K and the UT will progress at par with other parts of the country”, she added.
The people at Hatli waited for four long hours to listen Irani as she was preoccupied with her other rallies during the day at Tikri, Udhampur and Ramnagar where she made a dig at both Gupkaris and Panthers Party.
