LEH, May 7: Deputy Commissioner Simrandeep Singh today called a meeting of all the district level officers (PIOs) with an objective to sensitize them about the seriousness of RTI Act, its implications and mode of answering RTI applications timely.
Addressing the meeting, DC said that during his past 10 days in office, he learned about the people who have filed RTI applications in departments like Education, Rural Development, DC office and have not been given the right and timely treatment.
Underlining the importance of RTI Act, Simrandeep made the PIOs understand about the stringent penalties given under, besides highlighting the role and responsibilities of PIOs and APIOs. He appealed to all the officers to sincerely implement the RTI Act and directed the HoDs to appoint some PIO in case they are absenting from office so that the people do not suffer.
DC even issued directions for appointment of APIOs at Sub District and Block Offices, maintaining registers under RTI so that an objective assessment of RTI implementation is made.
