Cop, 3 others arrested; arms, ammunition recovered

Srinagar, May 7: Security forces today arrested four persons including a police man posted as security guard at a hotel where Move employees of Srinagar Civil Secretariat have been accommodated while massive operation has been launched in North Kashmir Kupwara district near the Line of Control (LoC) against militants hiding in the forests.
The arrested police man, a resident of Pattan area of North Kashmir has been identified as Sikander Ramzan Parra (belt no 750) of India Reserve Police (IRP). He was posted as security guard at Hotel Riyaz, Bishambar Nagar in Srinagar where the Move employees of Srinagar’s Civil secretariat are residing.
The incident comes a day after Move offices re-opened in Srinagar amid heightened security. The Move employees are accommodated by the Estates Department in various Estates properties and the hired accommodations after security clearance by police.
Police have registered a case (FIR 83/2013) at Police Station Sumbal in district Bandipora under Arms Act and are investigating the case.
Police sources said that along with Constable Sikandar three more persons, Riyaz Ahmad Gojri of Pattan, Jehagir Pandit of Kunzar and Ghulam Mohammad Shah of Kunzar were arrested.
While sharing details with the Excelsior, police sources said that the security forces had input about the movement of suspicious people in a red colour Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK01B 6383 for past 4 days.
Sources said that working on the input 2 Rashtriya Rifles and Sumbal Police had laid a naka at Dangarpora in Sumbal area. The red colour Tavera was intercepted and four persons were arrested. “One Pistol, one Pistol magazine, 2 SLR magazines, 50 SLR, three mobiles, one SIM card, and one pouch was recovered from the arrested persons”, sources added.
In the meantime, Army has launched a massive operation near the LoC in Budnal forests of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
An Army officer said in Srinagar that 68 Brigade of Army launched a massive operation in Budnal forests after the movement of 4-5 militants was observed in the area.
Sources said that 6-Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 12-Garhwal, 11 Grenadiers of Army are involved in the operation that was launched this morning. Additional troops have been rushed to the area to prevent militants from escaping the forests.
Sources said that helicopters were pressed into service to track the movement of militants. It was not yet clear whether the group is a freshly infiltrated or it was already hiding in the forests.
Sources said that the helicopters also dropped troops at various locations to plug all the escape routes in the cordoned area where the militants are believed to be trapped.
