PHD Chamber seeks reduction in taxes to revive automobile sector

JAMMU, Dec 18: Chairman, PHD Chamber Kashmir, Baldev Singh Raina who is also heading the automobile Committee of Kashmir and Sanjay Aggarwal co-chairman PHDCCI-Jammu today demanded the Government to reduce taxes as a short term measures to revive automobile sector.
“Government extended no support to automobile sector, which even in these testing times also paying crores as taxes and is one of the major job providers in UT of J&K,” said Raina, adding, despite the pandemic and resultant lockdown, automobile dealers have been paying salaries, PF, ESIC, and GST to their employees.
Raina said the Government’s economic relief package largely ignored the interests of the automobile industry. He said the industry is expecting some help by way of a reduction in taxes. “We will survive COVID-19 but the surety fee and 9% registration tax will kill the automobile sector,” he added.
Sanjay Aggarwal said it is the need of an hour to bring in some short-term measures which can yield immediate results in spurring demand in automobile sector, resolving liquidity crunch and create new jobs. He urged the UT Government to consider the rollback of pre-requisite of Bank Guarantee for Dealer Point registration and 9% Registration Tax levied on automobiles for a temporary period of 3-years as a short-term relief measures.
