JAMMU, Dec 18: The world primer Agency, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has nominated leading Geologist Prof G M Bhat of Department of Geology, University of Jammu, as a member of Scientific Board of Geoscience Programme (IGCP).
As the member, Prof G M Bhat shall provide very important technical expertise and advice on scientific projects to be approved and supported by IGCP, which has remained one of the most successful and cost efficient Geoscience ventures for UNESCO and IUGS since its inception more than four decades ago. The Scientific Board further provides the link between reputed international geoscientists and the IUGS/UNESCO staff, which manage IGCP.
Prof Bhat has been nominated as member of the IGCP Scientific Board for a term of four years (2020-2024). He along with Theme Leader will jointly assess the progress of existing projects as provided in their annual reports and evaluate several new project proposals for future funding.
