Employees demand one month’s salary for performing poll duty

JAMMU, Dec 21: J&K employees have urged upon the JKUT Administration to grant them  additional one month’s salary  for performing election duty.
A spokesman of the employees union said that the Government had announced a month’s additional salaries to the employees sent for election duties during the Panchayat elections in 2018.
Looking at same the Government employees working in different departments demanded additional salary as they have performed election duty in adverse weather conditions as in most of areas the temperature was at freezing zones and in the pandemic, they have performed election duty and ensured smoothly completion of whole process. In addition to their own duties at parent departments, they performed all duties assigned to them in addition to their duties.
“During the last Panchayat and Municipal election on a similar pattern and in same season employees have performed their duties and looking at the problems and difficulties faced by employees the then administration have announced one month’s additional salary and now they demanded same from present administration
One of the employees Ch Ayaz Ahmed Hakla said that their demand for eligibility for additional one month’s salary is genuine and based on justice. “Under the provisions of Section 13C of Representation of People Act 1950, District Election Commissioner (Deputy Commissioners), Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (tehsildars), and Electoral Registration Officer (SDM), all are deemed to be on deputation to Election Commission and are also eligible for one month’s additional salary. Those who are part and parcel of this whole process, must be paid one month additional salary.” Hakla remarked.
He further added that not accepting their demand is sheer injustice to their hard work and dignity.
It’s pertinent to mention here that after August 5, 2019 it was Ist election and that too conducted under COVID 19 Pandemic when the temperature in most of areas was near freezing points and it was JK UT Employees who made this possible and successful with a good percentage.
