Kargil, Leh airports, addl helipads discussed

Jammu, Dec 24: Lt Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, R K Mathur today called on Union Home Minister, Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed issues related to situation along the LAC and over all security scenario in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Official sources told the ‘Excelsior’ that during meeting, the Lt Governor discussed various issues related to the development of the area and other recent developments in the UT of Ladakh with the Home Minister. Shah inquired about the progress in other ongoing development projects in the newly created UT of Ladakh and overall security scenario in the cold desert region.
Mathur briefed the Union Home Minister on the situation along the Line of Actual Control with China, about the progress on several newly launched projects in Ladakh afterit become the UT and gave overall review of the security scenario presently prevailing in the area.
The Lt Governor also called on Union Cabinet Minister, Jal Shakti Mission, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Delhi and discussed the progress on Jal Shakti Scheme implementation in Ladakh. He also thoroughly discussed irrigation and flood control works being initiated in the UT of Ladakh. Shekhwat said that after Ladakh was accorded the status of Union Territory, its over all development is the matter commitment for the Govt of India. “It is a matter of happiness and proud for us that Ladakh is witnessing over all development after getting UT status,” the Union Minister said.
Mathur also met Union Minister of State for Power and Renewable Energy, R K Singh in the Union capital and discussed the need for additional transmission lines in Ladakh. During discussion over the Power issue, setting up of the separate control system and scope of utilizing Geothermal energy were also considered by the Union Minister.
The Lt Governor during meeting with the Chairman, Airport Authority of India reviewed progress on the Leh Airport construction and sanction of Kargil Airport. He also projected the issues of additional helipads, heli-ports and air-strips across Ladakh besides disaster preparedness and emergency relief in the UT of Ladakh.
Later, the Lt Governor called on Chairman-cum-Managing Director of SECI Ltd, J S Swain and discussed the issue related to complete non-conventional energy planning for entire Union Territory of Ladakh. During the detailed meeting with the CMD, the carbon-neutral initiatives to achieve the Prime Minister’s vision for Ladakh was deliberated upon.
During meeting with K Vijay Raghvan, the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister in Delhi, the Lt Governor discussed the steps for a sustainable development in Ladakh, scope of Scientific Tourism, need of an effective land-use plan and commercial agriculture were discussed in detail.
Earlier in the day, Mathur met the Development Commissioner, Handicrafts Shantmanu. During the meeting with the Commissioner, the LG discussed design development, marketing with the help of NIFT and Handloom Department, besides support for Pashmina development.
Meanwhule, the Lt Governor addressed the gathering at the valedictory function of the Online Customised Training Programme on the topic ” Design, Construction & Quality Control Assets of Flexible and Rigid Pavements” organized by CSIR, India.
