RAMBAN, Dec 26: A cop from district Kupwara was killed in accident in Rattan Bass area of Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, here.
As per police sources, a car bearing registration number JK01AH-6950 was on its way to Jammu from Srinagar, when its driver lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into Bisleri nallah near Rattan Bass area of Animal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, resulting into on the spot death of driver.
On getting information, police team and locals rushed to the spot, retrieved the body from the nallah and shifted it to SDH Banihal.
After completing medical and legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to family members for last rites.
The deceased has been identified as Altaf Ahmed Mir, son of Abdul Khaliq Mir of Wavoora tehsil Lolab district Kupwara.
The deceased was a Head Constable in Jammu and Kashmir Police and was returning from home to join the duty in Jammu.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Banihal Police Station and investigation started.
