JAMMU, Dec 27: Theatre group ‘Natrang’ here today staged Hindi play ‘Main Aurat Hoon’ written by Manjul Bhardwaj and directed by Neeraj Kant Sharma.
The play ‘Main Aurat Hoon’ underlines the independent existence of a woman.
In Indian society, the position of women is always perceived in relation to the man-from birth onwards and at every stage of life, she is dependent on him.
This perception has given birth to various social customs and practices. Violence against women both inside and outside their homes has been a crucial issue in the contemporary Indian society.
‘Main Aurat Hoon’ is not a one-line story, but covers different apathetical aspects relating to the sufferings of a woman, who is suffering from the ancient times within the family and in the society of course.
Scenes of her suffering in the family as a girl child, as a woman beaten by her drunkard husband and facing the gender-based inequality in education have been incorporated in the actual script of the play.
The play left tremendous impact on the performers and the audience as well. Though the play is a unique solo-performance yet was efficiently designed and directed for ten artists and even more may be the part of this flexible eye-opener.
Natrang artists who acted in the play were Meenakshi Bhagat, Kananpreet Kaur, Lovely Sharma, Riya Sharma, Brijesh Avtar Sharma, Sushant Singh Charak, Khushal Bhat, Kuldeep Angral and Ashish Thakur.
Lights of the play were designed and executed by Neeraj Kant, whereas the music was scored by Brijesh Avtar Sharma. The show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
