Srinagar, Dec 29: The Retired Non- Gazetted Police Officers Association today put forth a volley of demands while also seeking a resolution of their long-pending demand of pay anomaly.
In this regard, these retired police officers held a press conference here and said that their long-pending grievance regarding pay anomaly and indiscriminate treatment have gone unnoticed and unattended due to unknown reasons.
“We have been raising the matter repeatedly with the Police Headquarters, the Home Department and the Finance Department, but to no avail,” the President of the Association said.
The Association said that PHQ after a series of correspondence sought out the Financial implications involved in removing the unjustified and discriminative pay anomaly in the ranks of the non-gazetted police force.
“This had been estimated to be just Rs 593.20 lakh for benefits of revision of pension which was quite meagre and not any heavy burden on the exchequer,” it said.
They said that the J&K Govt as a matter of routine has earmarked and sanctioned an annual grant of Rs 17 lakh from the state budget for the welfare of retired police personnel to be released on annual basis.
“However, quite astonishingly, despite a time gap of more than 28 years when the number of beneficiaries has multiplied almost five times and price escalation has been more than 100 times, yet there has been no increase in the quantum of grant,” they said.
The retired police officers said that the Home Secretary who is supposed to be the custodian of our rights “is not doing justice with them and we are being neglected and ignored”.
On the occasion, they put forth a volley of demands while includes enhancement of the retirement gift up to Rs 1 lakh, providing accommodation for retired visiting Jammu, Srinagar.
“The accommodation should be separate and isolated excluding NGO mess. Constitute a retired policemen welfare fund committee as per policemen welfare fund in every district. Establishment of police hospitals in every district headquarters and up-gradation of trauma hospital,” they demanded.
