RAMBAN, Dec 29: Up in arms against prolonged power cuts and low voltage, people of Ramban today protested against Power Development Department.
The protest was organized under the leadership of former national president NSUI and Congress leader Fairoz Khan. The protesters assembled at Maitra Chowk and amidst raising of slogans against PDD, marched towards DC office Ramban where they submitted a memorandum to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha through DC Ramban.
The DC Ramban also met the delegation of protesting people and assured them that electricity issues would be solved as early as possible.
While addressing the gathering, Fairoz Khan said that the public of Ramban District was facing power crisis/ unscheduled power cuts as electricity woes continue unabated in district Ramban while electricity tariff has been hiked arbitrarily by PDD. He added that power cuts inevitably grown longer in the chilly winter, since the power deficiency in J&K doesn’t improve.
“No power scheduled is being followed on the ground and public of Ramban district is facing long and unscheduled power cuts much to the annoyance of the public. The people of far flung areas and also cities and towns are without electricity for days together and are compelled to arrange other form of illumination, since they are facing worst power crisis for months,” said Fairoz Khan.
“Students appearing in different exams are worst hit by the power crisis in Ramban as even mobile phones are not being charged because of extremely low voltage,” he further said and also listed the names of areas like Maitra Govindpura, Ballot, Flati, Gandhri, Pernot, Batti, Pogal, Kunda, Noora, Panchal, Tulihal, Maligam, Damasta, Sujmatna, Ukhral, Neel, Ramsu, Baliote, Rajgarh etc, which are worst hit. “At some place like Sujamtna, there is no electricity for months while Noora area is also in dark for the several days.
Prominent among others, who took part in the protest, included Sarpanch Mainder, Ex Sarpanch Rustum, Gani – Ex Sarpanch, Sarpanch Gandhri, Igbal Katoch Pernot, Gopal Raina, Sarpanch Iqbal Katoch, Naib Sarpanch Sajjad Katoch, Panch Sarfaraz and others.
