PTWA demands cancellation of point to point route permits

JAMMU, May 11: All J&K Passenger Transport Welfare Association (PTWA) has demanded to cancel all the route permits from point to point of 2×2 buses issued by the Transport Commissioner’s Office, Jammu.
The demand was raised in a meeting of the Association held here today, which was attended by presidents of All Passenger Bus Service Groups of the Jammu province.
The meeting expressed strong resentment towards the attitude of the Transport Commissioner, who, it alleged, is issuing route permit from point to point without any survey.
The speakers said that the State Government had issued an order on May 28, 2009, that no route permit from point to point may be issued, but the Transport Commissioner, Jammu, has been neglecting the order of the State Government and has kept issuing Route Permit from point to point to 2×2 buses.
The members alleged that the Joint Commissioner, Transport Department, Jammu, collected a huge wealth by illegally issuing route permit from point to point. Recently, he issued point to point route permits for Jammu-Bani, Jammu- Karian and Jammu Akhnoor, they maintained.
The meeting resolved that 2×2 buses should be converted into group systems of 2×3 buses and made to adopt the time table prescribed by the concerned ARTO Office. They also urged the Transport Commissioner, Jammu, to cancel or change all point to point Route Permits issued to 2×2 buses.
The Association members warned the Government of going on strike if their demands are not fulfilled within two days.
