Family refuses to take dead body of deceased truck owner

Inquest initiated, BoD constituted for autopsy: SSP

KATHUA, Jan 3: Family members of a truck owner, whose dead body was recovered yesterday near Dinga Amb area, have refused to take the dead body of the deceased and demanded registration of murder case.
As per police sources, on December 22 last year, two trucks bearing registration numbers NL02-9682 and PB02CC-2098 carrying bovine animals were seized by the police near Dinga Amb area of this district. However, the driver fled away from the spot.
Yesterday, an unidentified dead body was recovered which was later identified as Amandeep Singh of village Surpur Amritsar Punjab, owner of truck NL02-9682.
The family members of the deceased when called for identification at GMC Kathua, they raised allegation over some police cops of killing Amandeep Singh.
Ramesh Singh, uncle of deceased alleged that Amandeep Singh has been killed by the cops in police custody and his body was thrown somewhere in Dinga Amb area to save their skin.
Family members of the deceased accompanied by Sarpanch Surpur Balwinder Singh held protest against the Police Department and alleged that Amandeep Singh has been killed and a murder case should be register against cops of Hiranagar Police Station.
When contacted SSP Kathua Shailendra Mishra told the EXCELSIOR that inquest proceeding under Section 174 CrPC has been initiated in Amandeep Singh’s death and to ascertain the reasons behind the death, a Board of Doctors has been constituted to conduct the postmortem.
When asked about the allegation of murder, SSP said that the family should have approached his office.
“The family is not cooperating to get the postmortem done of the deceased. External injuries on the body of the deceased can be due to fall, but exact reason could be ascertained after postmortem will be conducted”, SSP added.
