PCB seizes banned polythene

JAMMU, Jan 4: Jammu & Kashmir, Pollution Control Board, today seized huge cache of banned polythene during checking of shops in Jourian township.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of Member Secretary J&K PCB, B.M Sharma and Regional Director, Jammu, Dr Syed Nadeem Hussain on the directions of the Chairman J&K PCB, Suresh Chugh
The team comprising Divisional Officer, Jammu North, Arshad Nazir Malik; F.I, Dimple Sharma, and F.I, Jaya Kapoor, raided several shops in Jourian town and seized 103 kg of banned polythene carry bags and single use plastic cutlery items. A fine of Rs 16,000 was also realized from the violators.
As per the J&K PCB, it has intensified drive against the use of banned polythene and disposable cutlery items and has initiated the process of imposing the heavy fines and penalties on the defaulters.
The Board has also advised the general public to desist from accepting the goods from shopkeepers, hawkers or vegetable and fruit vendors etc. packed in banned polythene carry bags having thickness less than 50 microns failing which they shall also be fined.
