Two UK returnees test +ve in Valley

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Jan 9: Two persons including a 29-year-old woman died of COVID-19 in Jammu region while 64 others tested positive for the virus including a female Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) posted in Traffic and 116 others recovered. After long time, active positive cases in Jammu fell below 1000.
The 34-year-old woman DySP Traffic posted in Jammu City and hailing from Paloura Top tested positive for the virus in Jammu today.
A 29-year-old woman from village Gandyal in Kathua district died of Coronavirus at Fortis Hospital Amritsar while 76-year-old man from Buta Nagar Paloura in Jammu district succumbed to the virus and ailments in ASCOMS Sidhra.
With these two deaths, Corona toll in Jammu region has gone up to 711, the highest being 364 in Jammu district followed by 64 Doda, 57 Udhampur, 55 Rajouri, 50 Doda, 39 Samba, 24 Poonch, 22 Kishtwar, 21 Ramban and 15 in Reasi district.
Among 64 persons, who tested positive for pathogen in Jammu region, 47 hailed from Jammu district, five each Udhampur and Doda, four Kathua, two Kishtwar and one in Reasi district. Rajouri, Samba, Poonch and Ramban districts didn’t report any COVID positive cases today.
Of 116 persons, who recovered from the virus, 56 belonged to Jammu district, 32 Samba, 11 Rajouri, nine Kathua and four each in Doda and Udhampur districts while rest of the districts didn’t report any recoveries.
Jammu region now has 50711 Corona cases. After a long time, active positive cases in the region today came down to three figures and stood at 990. There have been 49010 recoveries and 711 deaths in the region.
Meanwhile, two persons are among 30 people who travelled to Kashmir from United Kingdom recently tested positive for COVID-19 and it is not yet clear whether they are infected with new virus strain or not while 58 tested positive in Kashmir for COVID-19 today.
Masarat Hashim Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Srinagar who is also Nodal Officer COVID-19 Mitigation Operations in Srinagar told Excelsior that at least 30 travellers have arrived in Srinagar from the UK and other European countries since December 9.
The two persons who tested positive are from Habak and Soura areas of Srinagar and they are being admitted to JLNM hospital and will be discharged only after their test result returns from Delhi.
The ADC said that so far all, except for 2, have tested negative for COVID-19. The samples of those who tested positive for COVID-19 on RTPCR have been further sent to Delhi to ensure that they are not infected with new strain of VUI – 202012/01 virus which spreads fast and more deadly than COVID-19.
Srinagar district administration had earlier ordered that all those with travel history to the UK or any European country since December 9 will have to undergo RTPCR testing for COVID-19.
In Kashmir those who tested positive include 25 from Srinagar, 8 Baramulla, 5 Budgam, 7 Kupwara, 6 Pulwama, 2 from Bandipora, 2 Ganderbal and 3 from Kulgam.
With fresh cases the total number of cases in Kashmir division have reached to 71,714 including 69,412 recoveries and 1,198 deaths.
The total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 2,091 including 1,104 from Kashmir division.
With 267 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 118,422 which is 96.73 percent of the total cases.
