Earthquake of magnitude 5.1 hits J&K

JAMMU, Jan 11: A medium intensity earthquake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, hit the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir today.
An official said the quake occurred in the Union Territory at 1932 hours today, the tremors of which were felt in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts of Jammu and most parts of south Kashmir.
He said the epicentre of the earthquake was located 14 km from Kishtwar, adding the co-ordinates of the earthquake are latitude 33.29 degrees north and longitude 75.52 degrees east.
Meanwhile, several structures suffered minor damages in Doda and Kishtwar districts. Some cracks were developed in GMC Doda main building due to earthquake.
“Directions have been given to all the Tehsildars and SHOs to report the damages if any in their respective areas. People should not get panic and to stay safe follow all safety measures on priority basis”, said DC Doda Dr Sagar Dattaray Doifode.
