The unhappy youth of J&K born post-1990s are facing a large number of problems. Studying in a disturbed zone of Kashmir is not easy for anyone. Due to political turmoil, most of the time schools and tuition centers remain closed for months together. For the last ten years, the J&K students suffered very much, many times they didn’t appear in exams but get mass promoted. It is a big challenge for students to study in such a turbulent situation. With great difficulty and hurdles, the youth moves forward without caring for anything. When they reach a ripe age to get employment their options and preferences get hindered. Due to limited choices, they aim to get jobs only in the public sector. Due to the lack of private sector youth is greatly dependent on the public sector.
The employment package of 50000 jobs will not help in the mitigation of unemployment in J&K. It will help in bringing down the unemployment curve that steadily goes upwards. With the completion of the recruitment drive that would be completed in many phases, the remaining candidates will have to face difficulties again. The Union Government’s scheme of industrial development announced by LG for the union territory of J&K will bring some comfort among the unhappy youth. The scheme worth Rs 28,400 crores will come into force from the day of notification until 2037. As claimed by LG Sinha “This will encourage new investments, substantial expansion and also nurture existing industries in the newly-carved union territory”. Earlier the Union Government had disbursed a total amount of just Rs 1123.84 crores as a part of industrial policy. The kind efforts made by the Central Govt will help in boosting again the confidence of disgusted youth of the UT. The Industrial Development Package – 2021 with huge investments aimed at creating 4.5 lakh jobs and which is a good sign of a better future. A shift towards privatization is the need of the hour. The government took a good decision at the right time. For the complete alleviation of unemployment, such kind of policies and packages are necessary.

The Industrial Policy recently announced by the UT Government is certainly going to give a big boost to Industrial sector in the UT.
The long awaited bonanza has been welcomed by every section of the society particularly the unemployed youth of the UT.
It may not be out of context to mention here that industrial sector has suffered tremendously during the last 30 years due to militancy and its subsequent problems. A good percentage of businessmen had to wind up their businesses in the erstwhile state. No one wanted to set up any new business venture in those conditions in which businessmen were targetted either by killing them or by extortion. Besides, the LoC too remained hot on which one witnesses exchange of firing day and night even now. In such a atmosphere conducive business could not be transacted, with the result, the Industiral sector received a severe setback. Now , hope has been generated that the new Industrial Policy may give a new lease of life to Industries, and job opportunities for people.
