25 kg meat disposed-off, erring sellers fined

JAMMU, Jan 15: On the directions of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner, Avny Lavasa, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma along with other team members conducted a surprise drive in different areas of Jammu city to ensure the sale of wholesome and good quality meat and meat products to the consumers.
The drive started from CPO Chowk and covered the areas of New Plot, Amphalla, Janipur, Roop Nagar, Durga Nagar, Gangyal, Gandhi Nagar, Bathindi, Sidhra, Narwal etc.
During the drive, various meat shops were checked and about 25 kg substandard meat was seized and disposed-off properly along with a fine of Rs. 28,000 to meat sellers for selling unstamped and substandard meat.
Notices have been served to various meat shop owners to install black/red colour glasses in their shops and do not hang the meat outside their shops.
Municipal Veterinary Officer has appealed to all the shopkeepers dealing with meat/chicken products to maintain hygienic environment in and around their shops and adhere to the directions and guidelines issued by the JMC from time to time so that good quality meat shall reach the consumers.
He said that such surprised drives will continue in near future too and strict action shall be initiated against the defaulters.
