5 bovines rescued; drug peddler held

SAMBA, Jan 15: In continuation to its drive against bovine smugglers, Samba police in fifth consecutive day has successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle bovine in the jurisdiction of Police Station, Ghagwal by rescuing five animals.
Acting on reliable information, regarding transportation of bovines, a police party of Police Station (PS), Ghagwal while performing vehicle checking at Naka NHW, Tapyal, Ghagwal signaled a Mahindra vehicle without Registration Number coming from Kathua side and moving towards Srinagar to stop.
Instead of stopping the vehicle, the driver accelerated the speed and fled away from the spot. The alert cops chased the vehicle and intercepted it a few metres away from the naka point. However driver managed to escape taking the advantage of darkness.
During checking of the vehicle, five cattle were found laden inside it without any permission. All the cattle were rescued and shifted to safer place. The vehicle used for transporting the bovines was seized on the spot.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 10/2021 U/S 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act stands registered at PS Ghagwal and investigation started.
Meanwhile, Samba police has arrested one person identified as Liyakat Ali, S/O Gulam Ali of Anantnag Kashmir at present Gurha Mundian, Hiranagar after recovering seven kgs of Poppy Straw from him.
In this regard police has registered a case at PS Ghagwal under relevant sections of the law.
