3 houses gutted, 2 F&ES men injured

Srinagar, Jan 17: Two fire incidents were today reported from Srinagar city’s Nawa Kadal area in which at least 3 residential houses were damaged completely while as two firefighters including one civilian were also injured.
Around noon a massive blaze broke out in Malbab Sahab area of Nawa Kadal in response to which fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse down the flames along with the help of the locals.
The blaze engulfed two residential houses which were damaged completely. The flames were then doused down after strenuous efforts of the firefighters.
After the blaze was doused down there, another fire incident was reported from the Kani Kadal which is adjacent to Nawa Kadal. There a residential house was caught in the flames.
Soon after the incident, the fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse down the flames, the process which was on when this report was being filed.
The cause of the fire has been given out as short-circuit after the first place of the incident, while the cause that led to the fire at the second was not ascertained yet.
Also, two Fire & Emergency Service (F&ES) personnel and a civilian were injured while dousing off flames.
Officials said that after the fire erupted near Nawa Kadal, men from F&ES personnel reached the spot and started to extinguish the blaze and while doing that three persons including Shabir Ahmad (civilian) and two F&ES men -Firdous Ahmad from Sopore and Bashir Ahmad from Tral were injured and were shifted to SMHS hospital here.
Meanwhile, SMC Mayor Junaid Mattu in a tweet said the Fire Services personnel have done a commendable job in controlling a fire at Nawakadal, Srinagar which could have spread to the entire neighbourhood.
‘Aided by young volunteers from the area, the situation was swiftly and professionally tackled. Well done,” he said.
