JAMMU, Jan 18: Dogri poems book ‘Ma Da Karz’, written by Sudershan Kumar Sharma, was released at a function organized here today.
This is Sharma’s 1st book of poetry. Published by Sarv Bhasha Trust, New Delhi, the book ‘Ma Da Karz’ has 104 pages with 35 Dogri poems.
N P Singh, HoD District Institute of Education Training Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr Rattan Basotra, Chief Editor Dogri Dictionary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, presided over the function. Yashpal Nirmal, Assistant Editor, Dogri Department, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, was the guest of honour.
N P Singh appreciated Sudershan Kumar Sharma for contributing to Dogri literature by writing a high quality book. He said that it was a rare achievement on the part of Sudershan Sharma that in spite of being a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry in School Education Department, he could find time for this creative activity. He said that Sudershan Sharma is one of the prolific Dogri writers, who had been contributing in various creative genres of Dogri.
Dr Rattan Basotra, in his presidential address, said that the distinctive quality of Sharma’s poetry was that in simple language and direct manner, it conveyed the hard realities of life and contribution of mother in one’s life. Dogri poetry had reached a level of saturation but the new poets like Sudershan Kumar Sharma have kindled new hope, he added.
Yashpal Nirmal, in his address, spoke extensively on the poetic merit of Sudershan Sharma’s writing. He also highlighted the literary merits of the released book and said Sharma’s poetry had added new dimensions to Dogri literature.
“In Sudershan Kumar Sharma, Dogri has got a new sensitive poet, who has raised the expectations of lovers of Dogri literature,” he added.
Rattan Sharma, senior Journalist, congratulated Sudershan for his first book in mother tongue and hoped his writings touch new heights of excellence in poetry, in general and Dogri in particular.
Earlier, Sudershan Kumar Sharma recited some of poems from his book, which were much liked by the audience.
