Digital calendars in regional languages by DSE

JAMMU, Jan 24: The Directorate of School Education, Jammu has released digital calendars in five officials (regional) languages to showcase the culture and tradition of the Union Territory vis-a-vis the working of the department.
The Directorate of School Education, Jammu has taken the lead by releasing the calendars of 2021 in digital mode in four regional languages, Dogri, Kashmiri, Punjabi and Gojri and Pahari languages, which is in making.
“Inspired by the vision of National Education Policy 2020 for putting emphasis on familiarising young children with local culture and traditions a digital calendar has been prepared by the cultural and education cell of the Directorate of School Education, Jammu with the technical support of Deepak Sharma, IT wing,” Anuradha Gupta, Director, School Education, Jammu here said.
The calendars, she said, aces at showcasing some of the achievements of the department through pictures and to make a compilation of important local festivals mainly coinciding with changing seasons and celebrated in at districts of Jammu division.
“The digital calendar has been prepared in the regional languages spoken in Jammu division to bring out the beauty of richness of diverse languages of Jammu and is available on JK Education hub,” said the Director.
She added that while the effort has been made to include all local festivals, Chief Education Officers are requested to take the feedback and suggestions from teachers, students, their parents and other interested persons and forward to the directorate for enriching the contents of the calendar.
However, this is for the first time that calendars have been released in five central languages simultaneously.
Gojri and Pahari are languages that do not have a place in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution while Kashmiri, Hindi has also got the status of official language after J&K became the Union Territory.
Similarly, the promoters of regional languages have lauded the Directorate of School Education Jammu for this innovative idea and have urged other government departments as well to follow the footsteps.
