People protest for closure of pesticide units

SAMBA, May 17:  Demanding closure of the pesticide manufacturing units in Samba Industrial Area, several locals and social activists held a day-long protest dharna, here today.
They raised slogans against the administration as well as State Pollution Control Board for taking no action against the erring industrial units, which were polluting atmosphere in Samba and posing a grave threat to all the living beings, including humans, animals and crop.
The dharna was led by social activist Naresh Amba, who warned a vigorous agitation if the life endangering units are not closed immediately in Samba.
Others who addressed the dharna included Arun Khajuria, Prithvi Singh and Chaman Lal. Highlighting the issue, they narrated the incidents of death due to poisonous waste coming out from these Pesticide manufacturing units in Samba and appealed the Government to take emergency measures for safeguarding life of people.
The protesters claimed support of several political and social organizations besides all the locals and announced to take their struggle to a logical conclusion.
