KATHUA, May 17: Minister of State for Fisheries, Cooperatives, Finance and Planning, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today inaugurated Government Primary School building at Tumbu village of Lahri Panchayat in tehsil Billawar.
The newly built school building has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 4.70 lakh under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
Dr Sharma on the occasion said that education sector has been accorded high priority by the Coalition Government for which extensive infrastructure along with required teaching staff is being ensured. He said under Rashtriya Madhmik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) more schools will be upgraded, adding that the process of recruitment of the teachers has already been initiated.
The Minister also convened a public grievances redressal camp at Daliyan of Lahri Panchayat where the people apprised him about their problems related to scarcity of drinking water, dilapidated condition of roads and provisions for uninterrupted power supply.
Dr Sharma gave patient hearing to the demands of the people and issued on spot instructions to the field functionaries of the concerned departments to redress them on priority. He directed SDM Billawar Vikas Gupta to ensure timely distribution of Kissan Credit Cards to the farmers so that they can avail benefits of the schemes under implementation. He directed the PHE Department to chalk out viable projects of Water Supply Scheme to cater to the water needs of the Lahri Panchayat area.
The Minister announced Rs 6 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for various development works in Daliyan, Lahri and Tumbu villages. He also announced 33 electric poles to cover the un-electrified dwellings in the area.
