JAMMU, May 17: Anganwadi Workers have decided to hold protest on May 31 against the decision of Social Welfare Department for increasing the duty hours of Anganwadi workers by 4 to 6 hours.
This was stated by Lakshman Ravinder Singh, senior leader, Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, during a press conference here today.
He said that Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association, a unit of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, has opposed the decision of Social Welfare Department for extending the duty hours from 4 to 6 hours. He said that decision of increasing the duty hours is not in the favour of Anganwadi workers.
Anganwadi workers perform average 4 to 5 hours duty per day and are paid honorarium per month and not salary at par with Government employees or minimum wages as per law.
“If the Government wants to increase the duty hours then it should pay Rs 11,000 salary as per Government rules to the Anganwadi workers”, he demanded.
The association has sent letters to the Chief Secretary, Commissioner Secretary and also to the Director, Social Welfare Department, for review of the decision.
Among others present were Swarna Choudhary, president, Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association, Neelam Sharma, general secretary and Ashok Choudhary.
