Srinagar : An army officer was killed and a soldier critically injured in a gun battle that raged early today in the North Kashmir’s Macchil sector along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan, a top army officer said.
“We witnessed movement of an armed group of around 4-5 militants near the LoC in Macchil sector. We challenged the militant group and they opened fire leading to a gun battle. One of our Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed and a solider was critically injured in the gun battle”, the army officer said.
“We have launched searches near the LoC with Pakistan where the gun battle took place. It was still dark when the gun battle took place. It is not clear whether the militant group managed to sneak in into Indian territory under the cover of darkness or not”, the army officer said.
This is the second time a militant group was intercepted this month on the LoC with Pakistan in North Kashmir.
“Early this month a group of 5-6 heavy armed militants sneaked into Indian territory along the LoC in North Kashmir. Massive operation has been going on for past two weeks in the dense woods but so far they have not been tracked. We used also helicopters to track them but they took advantage of bad weather and dense woods”, the army officer added.
