JAMMU, Feb 2: Apni Party provincial president and former Minister, Manjit Singh has appealed Government to do away with the practice of renewing Other Backward Class (OBC) and issuing Other Social Caste (OSC) certificates for the job seekers from the OBC community.
Manjit Singh, in a statement here, today said the Other Social Caste certificates are being issued to the OBC community even after the scrapping of special status.
“The Government should reject OSC for the OBC community and directly issue OBC for job seekers even in J&K Government. “Earlier our youth had to file for an OSC certificate to apply for the J&K Government jobs and separately get an OBC certificates for Central Government jobs,” said Manjit Singh in a statement.
He said that this practice should be stopped and only OBC should be issued to the OBC community. The OBC certificate should be issued once for lifetime.
“The youth who apply for different posts in Government jobs face problems when the majority is not able to renew their certificates within time limit in view of the obligation that the OBC certificates will have to be renewed every year which is not possible for everyone,” said Manjit Singh.
He was speaking at a public meeting which was organized by OBC leader Sohan Singh Sony at Ward No 33, Subash Nagar.
In this public meeting, the people appraised him about the problems being faced by them like underdevelopment of their residential areas, unscheduled electricity cuts and improper drinking water supply.
Manjit Singh, referring to the issues of unemployed youth, said that the Government should review renewal rules for OBC certificates and ensure that there is no need to renew them in future for the facility of the unemployed youth.
He said that “J&K Government should implement 27% reservation for OBC people like the rest of the country.” Speaking on the occasion, ex-MLA, Faqir Nath said that the OBC as well as SC Community have remained neglected by the Governments in past and they were exploited as vote banks.
“The people are aware and they have supported the Apni Party for its developmental policies and policy of unity among the people, and equal rights for all the people of J&K,” said Faqir Nath.
