JAMMU, Feb 5: Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association took out protest rally at Bakshi Nagar here today.
A large number of handicapped persons assembled by Bakshi Nagar under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association and took out a protest rally to Governor House.
While speaking, the protestors said that Government is giving deaf ear to the issues being faced by the persons with disabilities in the J&K. In other States, the persons with disabilities are enjoying equal rights and care from Government but the persons with disabilities in J&K are ignored and discriminated. Click here to watch video
They demanded implementation of Disabilities Acts 2016 with their Rules as soon as possible in Jammu and Kashmir, special recruitment drive for qualified disabled persons, enhancement of monthly pension from Rs 1,000 to Rs 4,000, vertical reservation for persons with disabilities rather than horizontal in all Government jobs, provide low interest loans for persons with disabilities as well as it should be covered in subsides, MGNREGA and all such types of works should be available for disabled persons also with 4 per cent reservation as per Disabilities Act 2016, 4 per cent promotion and transfer policy for disabled employees, rehabilitation center in each district headquarters of CRC, health covers with special packages and free medical aid treatment in Government and private nursing homes and reservation in Assembly, Municipalities and Panchayats.
They also demanded reservation in all colleges and universities, set up advisory board for physically challenged persons and to be given a chance in District Development Boards meetings, set up advisory board for economic and social development of physically challenged persons, separate counters in every Government and Semi-Government officers, 50 per cent concession in electric and water fee charges, re-advertisement of backlog vacancies since 1998 to till date, including of Association members in Executive Committees and Coordination Committees after the nomination of J&K Government, accessibility of vehicles, parking, office works, banks, road and bridges, participation in economic and development works, appointment of Disabilities Commissioner, exemption of fee for job applicants, Braille schools for blind persons in every district at least upto primary and higher levels at Jammu and Srinagar, people falling under disable category shall remain all tax free including GST and atleast 4 per cent reservation wherever shopping complexes and plots are made by the Government Departments.
