Cong holds protest against farm laws, blocks road

JAMMU, Feb 6: While supporting the nationwide call of protest by farmers, the Jammu Kashmir Congress unit under the leadership of its president, Ghulam Ahmed Mir held a strong protest demonstration alongwith various senior Congress leaders and workers at Rajiv Colony, Chowk near Raddison Hotel peacefully, leading to blockage of the National Highway for some time.

JKPCC chief addressed the gathering and said Congress party fully backs the agitation of farmers who have rejected the three black laws immediately and protesting over seventy days all over country.
Mir blamed Modi led BJP Govt for its adamant attitude and anti-farmers black laws as the farmers are agitating at the Delhi borders for the last more than 70 days. Around 157 farmers have lost lives in the agitation but the Govt is trying to tire out the farmers are not conceding their genuine demands. Mir also condemned the illegal detention of farmers and media persons at Delhi by police and asked the Govt to immediate release of farmers and media officials.
Prominent leaders who took part in the protest include, former ministers and vice presidents PCC Mula Ram, Kanta Bhan and Raman Bhalla, Th Balwan Singh (Ex-MLA), PCC general secretaries Manmohan Singh, Yogesh Sawhney (I/C DCC Jammu Urban), Shabir Ahmed Khan former minister and DCC president Rajouri, Corporators Dwarka Choudhary, Sobat Ali and Bano Mahajan, Narinder Sharma, Sanjeev Panda, Kapil Singh, Suresh Dogra, Sahil Sharma, Madan Malagar and others.
Similar protest was held by DCC Jammu- Rural led by its president, Hari Singh Chib at Gurha Singhu on Akhnoor Road in Raipur-Domana constituency. The Congress workers including large number of Youth Congress activists joined the peaceful protest in support of farmers sitting on protest dharna at Delhi border. Besides Chib, BDC chairman Bhalwal Kuldeep Kumar, senior members K K Sharma, Rajinder Kumar and R S Jamwal also addressed gathering.
Meanwhile, Jammu West Assembly Movement leader, Sunil Dimple sat on one day hunger strike at New Plot in support of farmers and demanded resignation of Prime Minister. He said that his organization fully supports the cause of farmers who are protesting against farm laws.
