Cop-militant links

Links have surfaced between some policemen of State Police Force and armed militants in Kashmir. In the past also, some arrests of policemen have been made on allegation of having established links with militant organizations like HM or LeT. Little is known whether they have been dealt with according to the law of the land or not. In particular, in Sopore sector, a number of cops have been arrested in recent past who were alleged to have had links with LT. After the capture of Fahadullah the LeT Chief in Sopore sector, he divulged very sensitive information and also disclosed the names of various persons including one Gul Muhammad Mir of Adipora, Rafiabad, who was on the roll of Indian Reserve Police and was posted at a sensitive duty in Sopor. Arms and ammunition have been recovered by the police from his custody and he has been booked. JK Police force deserves a pat for keeping close track of suspect cops and leaving nothing to chance. This is not the first arrest of a cop. The police authorities should order a research study into the aberrant behaviour of some of the cops who are lured by the militants and decided to become their pawns. They may be doing the misdeed for greed of money but they need to understand that they are playing with their life.
Some areas of Kashmir are still infested with militants clandestinely operating from one or the other hideout. Security forces are gradually tightening the noose around them and it is not long before they are all liquidated. Top police authorities would do well to issue subtle warning to all suspect cops whose activities are under scanner to be careful not to fall in the trap of the militants. By falling prey to temptation these cops are not only risking their job with the government but are also risking their lives which cannot be guaranteed in any case as long as they remain linked to militancy.
