Land mines explode after forest fire on LoC

MENDHAR, May 21: Scores of land mines exploded in massive forest fire in the forward area of Balakote sub sector in Mendhar area of district Poonch since last night.
A police spokesman said that fire started from PoK side and then engulfed several areas on this side of the Line of Control (LoC). Several areas of  Balakote from Panjani Nallah to Dabbi spreading over 2-3 sq km remained under fire during the day. The Army and Forest department officials tried to control the fire today. The fire caused damage to the flora and fauna.
The people heard many explosions of land mine during the fire today and last night as well. However, no loss of human life has been reported. The fire was contained this evening but dense spoke was still visible in the sky in  entire fire affected ridge line.
