DC reviews preparations for Sindhu Festival

LEH, May 21: DC, Leh Simrandeep Singh today took a preparatory meeting for holding Sindhu Festival 2013 which is celebrated as an annual feature from June 12 to 14 in Leh. In the meeting, various committees consisting of district officers were formed and assigned responsibilities for smooth conduct of the festival.
A detailed discussion was held on the conduct of the programmes of the festival which includes polo matches, exhibition of local handicrafts, illumination of prominent buildings in Leh town and cultural presentation of diverse culture of Ladakh.
Addressing the meeting, DC urged upon the committee members to work out a well thought-of plan in order to make the festival a grand success and said that he would hold a review meeting over the preparations and arrangements with the conveners of each committee soon.
The meeting was attended by the Superintendent of Police, Leh Vivek Gupta, Addl. DC, Leh Tsering Morup, SE, PWD, district officers and representatives from Hotel Association, Ladakh Trade and Travel Association, Taxi Operator’s Union etc.
DC also convened a review meeting in connection with achieving 100% of EPICs / Photo Electoral Roll Coverage (PER) which was attended by the BLOs of Leh, Chuchot and Kharu blocks.
Addressing the meeting, DC said that the BLOs are formally appointed  under Section A 13 (B) of Representation of People Act  and were assigned with certain responsibilities and duties. He urged all the BLOs to take this job seriously and make Leh 100% EPICs coverage district in the country.
Tashi Dolma ACR highlighted the cases of duplicacy in registration of voters and requested the BLOs to recommend for their deletion and also instructed them to confirm the Indian citizenship of voters in uncertain cases.
