JKBOSE initiates textbooks translation into four official languages

JAMMU, Feb 15: A two-day workshop was organized today by the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) today to initiate the translation of the text books of Environmental Studies from class 3rd to 5th and Mathematics from class 1st to 5th in four official languages viz. Urdu, Dogri, Kashmiri and Hindi.
Prof Veena Pandita, Chairperson, JKBOSE inaugurated the workshop while Maneesha Sareen, Secretary, JKBOSE presided over the programme.
In her inaugural address, the Chairperson said, “Translation is a nuanced process of knowledge transaction and needs utmost care and expertise so that the soul and essence of the source language is appropriately conveyed in the target language”. I am sanguine that this endeavour shall be accomplished well and our future generation will not only be trained in the latest technological development but shall also be efficient language users,” she added.
Maneesha Sareen hoped that the efforts initiated by JKBOSE shall be truly helpful in realizing the objectives embedded in the vision document of National Education Policy -2020. “Neither the knowledge should be lost nor the language be compromised in the process of translation,” she said.
Earlier, Dr Farooq Ahmad Peer, Director Academics, presented welcome address. Dr Sudhir Singh, Joint Secretary, Secrecy, JD also shared his expertise regarding translation work.
Twenty-four experts from Jammu and 33 experts from Kashmir drawn from translation industry, School Education Department and SCERT participated in the workshop.
Other officers who attended the workshop from Jammu Division were Dr Yasir Hamid Sirwal, Assistant Director, Ranjeet Singh Manhas, Suresh Gouria, Anuradha Sharma, Academic Officers along with Academic Assistants Dilraj Kour and Dolly Andotra. Officers who attended the workshop from Kashmir Division were Aliva Qayoom, Dr Arif Jan, Naila Neelofer, Assistant Directors and Tariq Ahmad Kanjwal, Academic officer.
For translation in Urdu and Kashmiri languages, the workshop is being organized at the regional office of JKBOSE at Srinagar whereas it is being organized at Divisional Office of JKBOSE at Jammu for translation in Hindi and Dogri languages.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Yasir Hamid Sirwal (Assistant Director, JKBOSE).
