JAMMU, Feb 17: Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Javed Iqbal Wani has disposed of the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against child abuse with the direction to the Government to consider the establishment of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) in the light of the provisions of Section 17 of the Act and the guidelines or the directions that may have been issued or likely to be issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
When the PIL filed by Advocate Shivan Mahajan came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed, “various status reports have been filed from time to time pursuant to the directions issued by the court and in view of the reports, it is apparent that the Government has taken sufficient steps for the protection of child rights but still the cause of concern which remains is non-establishment of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights”.
