JAMMU, Feb 19: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) today raided a fake hallmarking centre in Jain Bazar Jammu.
A team of officials from BIS, Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office conducted an enforcement search and seizure operation at M/s Jai Mata Di Tunch Centre, Shop No 130 (FF), Jain Bazaar, Jammu on information of suspected violation of BIS Act 2016. During the operation, Laser Marking Machine and XRF Machine were seized for violation of Section 14 (6) of BIS, 2016.
The said centre was not having valid BIS recognition for hallmarking of gold or silver jewellery and artefacts.
Action is being initiated by BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office against the offender under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The offence is punishable with imprisonment upto one years or a fine up to Rs 1,00,000 or both as per Section 29 of BIS Act, 2016 for first Contravention.
It has been observed many times that fake hallmarking of gold jewellery is being done and sold to common people for huge profits. General public has been advised that in case they come across any instances of violation of BIS Act, 2016, the same may be intimated to the Head Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office, BIS, Lane No. 4, SIDCO Industrial Complex, Bari Brahmana, Jammu-181133 (J&K).
