JAMMU, Feb 19: Employees Joint Action Committee Jammu Kashmir (EJAC) has appealed the Government not to harass and terrorise Government employees over 22-48 years conundrum, with regard to forced retirement.
The EJAC held a meeting under the chairmanship of its president, Fayaz Ahmed Shabnam here in Jammu wherein, the members discussed the most burning issue with regard to tough laws by virtue of which employees who will be under- performing, having corruption charges, or a tarnished image shall be forcibly retired in a particular age group or a service period.
Speaking on the occasion, Shabnum said that in the present world where concepts like dignity of labour and equal work, equal wages have become the slogan of the masses, this part of the world is experiencing a different scenario. He said that corruption, inefficiency, tarnished image are not a factor to be measured by age or years, it can be an attribute of some people at any point of time. Shabnam said that to every Government, its employees are its limbs and but the system has not shown much respect to the working class.
There is need to provide healthy atmosphere to employees to help them grow in every aspect. Threats and suppressions will only discourage them and lower their morale. He hoped that the good sense will prevail and the Govt will revoke this order.
Ganesh Khajuria senior leader EJAC and Chairman JKTF said no nation can thrive by suppressing its own working class and by making them feel insecure. He lamented that the recent decision by the Government to forcibly retire those employees who have attained either the age of 48 or have served for about 22 years and have a tarnished image or are involved in corruption or even have grown inefficient over the passing year, is being viewed as rather tyrannical and undemocratic, besides being illogical and partial.
BS Kotwal while giving vent to his take on the issue said that it is simply preposterous, absurd and irrational and reflects some fragile minds that have conceived such a nasty idea to overcome the evils in the Government services and among the Government servants.
Mohd Akbar Khan, Altaf Hondoo, Muzaffar Ganaie, Tariq Ahmad Sofi and otjhwers also spoke on the occasion.
