JAMMU, May 23: Contesting the Chief Minister’s proposal for partial revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from certain districts of the State, BJP National Executive Member and J&K, Chief spokesperson, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that it would be strategically difficult to nab a militant on the run if AFSPA is in force in one district and not in force in the adjoining district. Moreover, any decision regarding AFSPA has to be primarily based on security inputs and is not the Chief Minister’s sole prerogative, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also BJP Samba district Prabhari (Incharge), was addressing the district executive meeting of Samba from where the Chief Minister has reportedly proposed revocation of AFSPA.
Referring to Samba as a geo-politically sensitive district, strategically placed between two crucial districts of Jammu and Kathua, Dr Jitendra Singh said the BJP has always taken a lead in taking up the issues of special concern to this border district. Only recently, the Party’s State executive had adopted a resolution to express its solidarity with the people living along the border who are on the one hand victims of cross border firing and infiltration while on the other hand suffer from State apathy, he added.
Ashok Kaul, general secretary (Org), presented a broad resume of BJP’s organizational agenda for the State as also for the Samba district. While emphasizing the ideological strength of organization, he said the effort should be to add more and more people who subscribe to nationalist, patriotic commitment of BJP.
State general secretary Rajiv Jasrotia, the BJP Samba district president Kashmira Singh district, district Seh-Prabhari Aseem Gupta, State spokesperson Sanjeev Sharma and Subash Bhagat also addressed the meeting.
