Governor lauds valour of Army for guarding frontiers in difficult conditions

LEH, May 23: N. N. Vohra, Governor today lauded the officers and men of the Indian Army, for guarding the frontiers of the country in extremely difficult climatic and challenging conditions, adding that the entire nation is proud of their devotion and commitment.
The Governor was addressing the Golden Jubilee celebrations function of the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre at the Rinchen Auditorium here today.
The Governor observed that Golden Jubilee is a joyous and important landmark in the evolution of any organization which provides an opportunity to look back on past achievements and prepare to effectively meet the upcoming challenges. In this context, he added that the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the raising of the Ladakh Scouts Regiment is an exciting occasion to recall the glorious achievements of the valiant officers and men of this Regiment, one of the youngest in the Indian Army, and for the Ladakh Scouts to re-dedicate themselves to serve the nation with renewed zeal and commitment.
Referring to late Col. Rinchen, the Governor observed that the Ladakh Scouts have every reason to be proud of producing such gallant soldiers.
The Governor recalled the outstanding bravery displayed by the officers and jawans of the Ladakh Scouts in the 1962, 1965, 1971 operations and during OP Meghdoot and OP Vijay in which the Regiment had participated since its raising, and the sacrifices made by them for safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country while discharging their duties in extremely challenging conditions. He paid glowing tribute to all those officers and jawans of the Regiment who laid down their lives in the service of the nation.
Referring to a large number of ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris present on this occasion, the Governor emphasized the need for all the required measures being taken for promoting their welfare. The Governor felicitated a number of Veer Naris and War Heroes on this occasion.
The Governor presented a memento to the Ladakh Scouts Regiment on this historical occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt. Gen. Rajan Bakshi, GOC, 14 Corps, dwelt on the achievements of the Ladakh Scouts Regiment.
Col. S. S. Patil, Commandant, Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre, presented a memento to the Governor as a memorabilia of this important occasion.
Captain (Hony) Tsephal, President, Ex-Servicemen League, presented vote of  thanks.
Meanwhile, Mr Vohra emphasized the need for establishing Feed and Fodder Banks in the Ladakh region, particularly to serve Changthang and other remote areas, to meet the fodder requirements of livestock during winter months. He also stressed the need for construction of Shelter Sheds for live stock in such areas.
The Governor was receiving briefing about the to-date status of development of agriculture, horticulture, animal and sheep husbandry and other development sectors in Leh district at a high level meeting held here this afternoon.
Recalling the loss of Pashmina goats, sheep and cattle in the Changthang area of Ladakh this winter, the Governor stressed the high importance of all required measures being taken, including the procurement of feed and fodder, setting up units for baling the fodder to enable economical transportation, establishment of feed/fodder storage centres in the remote areas and putting in place animal shelters, wherever required in the Ladakh region. He added that a comprehensive Action Plan needs to be put in place in this regard well before the onset of next winter.
LAHDC, Leh Councillors from the Changthang area presented a memorandum to the Governor on this occasion highlighting their development demands.
The Governor assured the Councillors that the issues raised by them would be taken up with the concerned authorities in the Central and State Governments.
