Cops involved in smuggling, one held

JAMMU, May 23: Police today arrested a police constable while another escaped from a naka in Rajouri City this afternoon. Police recovered a large quantity of intoxicants from their possession.
SSP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi said police intercepted Maruti car No. 4242 JK02M at Rajouri City this afternoon in which two persons were traveling. Police nabbed one of them while his colleague jumped out of the vehicle and managed to escape.
The arrested police constable has been identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad, a resident of Rajouri town while the constable, who skipped the naka, was Imtiyaz Ahmad, also a resident of Rajouri.
Both of them were presented posted at District Police Lines (DPL) at Kishtwar.
Police have seized the car and recovered a large quantity of intoxicant material from it, which the constables were smuggling to different places for supplies to the youths.
The cops have been booked under NDPS Act at Rajouri police station.
Police have launched a hunt for absconding constable Imtiyaz Ahmad.
