JAMMU, Feb 23: The transporters of all the commercial vehicles in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have deferred their proposed indefinite strike from February 24.
Vijay Singh Chib, president Matador Union Jammu and senior member All J&K Transport Welfare Association said that today two rounds of meetings with Transport Commissioner and Commissioner/ Secretary Transport, Hirdesh Kumar Singh were held here. Though officers in principle agreed to the demands of the transporters but no written assurance was given to the Association.
He said tomorrow again at 12 noon, another meeting with Commissioner/ Secretary, Finance AK Mehta and Commissioner/ Secretary Transport will be held at Civil Secretariat. In view of assurance from the Govt, the proposed indefinite strike has been deferred for one day.
The Association is demanding revision of passenger fare and waive off on Token/ Passenger tax during the lock down period of one year. It said collection of tax at Toll Plazas in J&K is also very high. The Govt must abolish the same or reduce the tax money.
