Five 12-bore shotguns seized during raids on poachers

SRINAGAR, Feb 23: In a special drive against poachers, Police in Ganderbal today said to have seized five 12-bore shotguns in Shalbugh and Paribal villages.
A police spokesperson said that the officers from Police Station Kheerbhawani and Police Post Shadipora raided at different locations in Shalbugh and Paribal villages of Ganderbal area “and recovered five 12-bore guns from poachers who are misusing their licensed weapons and caused the huge loss by killing a large number of migratory birds.”
In this regard, police said, cases vide FIR No.11/21 and FIR No. 25/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered against five Persons in Police Station Kheerbhawani and Police Station Ganderbal respectively. Further investigations have been initiated.
SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmed Poswal- JKPS has warned the poachers who are killing migratory birds either with licensed or unlicensed weapons.
“Killing of migratory birds not only threatens certain species but also leads to degradation of ecosystem and livelihood of locals as well,” Poswal has said.
